Illustration of FAQ with Do It and Don't Do It answers

You have questions. We have one answer. Occasionally two. Here are the most common questions we receive about The To Do Method.

The Basics

Q: What if it's on the list?
A: Do it!!
Q: What if it's NOT on the list?
A: Don't do it!!
Q: So, if it's on the list, should I do it?
A: Yes. Do it!! We just covered this.
Q: What if I don't want to do it, but it's on the list?
A: Do it!! Your feelings are valid but irrelevant to the method.
Q: And if it's not on the list, but I want to do it?
A: Don't do it!! OR put it on the list and then do it!!

Getting Philosophical

Q: What if I lose the list?
A: Make a new list. That's Step 1. You already know this.
Q: What if the list is too long?
A: Either do more things or want fewer things. Both are valid life strategies.
Q: Can I have multiple lists?
A: Yes, but that's venturing into Advanced Techniques™ territory. Proceed with caution.
Q: What if someone else puts something on my list?
A: It's on the list now. Do it!! (Or cross it off. We won't tell.)
Q: Can I cross something off without doing it?
A: Technically, the method only says "do some of the things." It doesn't say you can't remove things. This is either a loophole or a feature.
Q: What if I add "make a list" to the list?
A: You've created a paradox. The universe may or may not implode. We recommend not doing this.

The Competition

Q: How is this different from other productivity methods?
A: Other methods have more steps. More steps = more complicated. More complicated = less likely to actually do it. The To Do Method has 3 steps. You can remember 3 steps. Can you remember 47 steps? Didn't think so.
Q: But what about Agile? Scrum? Kanban? GTD?
A: Those are all just The To Do Method with extra steps and more expensive consultants. We've simplified it for you. You're welcome.
Q: Do I need to be certified to use The To Do Method?
A: No. If you can write words and then do things, you're certified. Congratulations. You're a To Do Method Practitioner!!
Q: Is there a To Do Method certification I can put on LinkedIn?
A: No, but nothing is stopping you from adding it. "Certified To Do Method Practitioner" has a nice ring to it.

Edge Cases

Q: What if everything on my list is done?
A: Congratulations!! You've achieved inbox zero for your life. Now make a new list. (Step 1. Keep up.)
Q: What if I'm doing something that's not on any list anywhere?
A: You're operating outside the method. We can't help you. You're on your own. Godspeed.
Q: What if I write "do nothing" on the list?
A: Then do it!! Sit there. Do nothing. You've now completed a task by doing nothing. That's peak efficiency.
Q: Can I use The To Do Method for world domination?
A: Step 1: Make a list. Step 2: Put "world domination" on it. Step 3: Do it!! We take no responsibility for outcomes.
Q: I still have questions.
A: That's not a question. But we offer consultations.
Summary: If it's on the list → Do it!! If it's not on the list → Don't do it!! Everything else is just details.
